Riverdale, Md., March 22, 2018 – Purple Line Transit Partners (PLTP) today announced the appointment of Alfred “Fred” B. Craig, Jr. as chief executive officer. The Purple Line is an innovative public-private partnership (P3) between the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and a consortium of leading private sector engineering and finance firms with a track record of delivering major infrastructure projects. Construction on the Purple Line began in September 2017, following a groundbreaking celebration with PLTP officials, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, MDOT Secretary Pete K. Rahn and MDOT Maryland Transit Administrator Kevin Quinn. The Purple Line project is targeted to be complete in 2022.

As CEO of PLTP, Mr. Craig is directing the development of this 16.2-mile light rail project for the MDOT Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA.) This $5.6 billion project will extend from Bethesda to New Carrollton, Maryland in the inner suburbs of Washington, DC, and is the largest transit P3 project in the United States. Mr. Craig brings 35 years of experience in similar ventures, including the successful Cincinnati Street Car and Ohio High Speed Rail Programs, and the South Capitol Street reconstruction program including Nationals Park.

“The Purple Line project is set to transform this vital east-west corridor serving inside the beltway communities in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties,” commented Jane Garvey, chairman of Purple Line Transit Partners and of Meridiam North America, the lead equity partner of PLTP. “Fred’s experience and exceptional leadership will help us deliver this vital project for the people of Maryland.”

“Work is well-underway to deliver the positive quality of life and economic development benefits to residents and businesses throughout the entire Purple Line corridor,” commented Craig. “The companies of Purple Line Transit Partners are committed to providing timely and relevant information to the public during the construction phase of the project as we work diligently towards completion in 2022 and creating meaningful opportunities for disadvantaged and minority businesses as they participate in construction.”
